Miami Circle - Virtual Tour, Location 10C

Location 10C

Feature 140 is a large and complex basin feature in the southwestern quadrant of the Miami Circle. One main, roughly rectangular basin is connected to two smaller basins to the northwest and southeast. The walls are nearly vertical, especially along the basin’s long axis. Tool marks are evident on the walls and duricrust deposits are present on the walls and on the bottom of the basin. Eleven smaller holes are present in the bottom of the basin group. Large limestone cobbles were mapped in the central and southeastern basins. The midden contained animal bone, marine shell, 3 shell tools, ceramic sherds, including one linear stamped sherd, and fragments of concreted midden and limestone.
