Miami Circle - Visit - Brickell Ave. Bridge

Enlarged Item
Brickell Ave. Bridge

Perhaps the best way to see the Miami Circle is as a pedestrian crossing the Brickell Avenue Bridge. The Brickell Avenue Bridge, which crosses the Miami River south of downtown, borders the west side of the Miami Circle. Pause for a minute at sunrise and watch the dawn illuminate the towers of Brickell Key and eventually light the emerald lawn of the Miami Circle.

Another highlight of the Brickell Avenue Bridge is the bronze statue “Tequesta Family” by Cuban born sculptor Manuel Carbonell. The sculpture is an elaborate bas relief bronze pillar that illustrates scenes from Tequesta life crowned by a Tequesta warrior and his family. Bronze reliefs on the bridge honor six people prominent in the history of Miami—Julia Tuttle, Henry M. Flagler, William and Mary Brickell, D.A. Dorsey and Marjory Stoneman Douglas.
